About the work
Tzafati is an artist working in the space between body, material, and memory. Her relief works emerge from an ongoing exploration of movement, folds, light and shadow - subtle bodily gestures that echo internal experience.

As part of her process, she photographs herself in various poses, searching for an image that captures a fleeting emotional or physical moment. From there, through precise work in clay, she creates reliefs using observational sculpting techniques that connect her practice to ancient sculptural traditions.

Tzafati’s visual language draws from the past, yet remains deeply rooted in a contemporary personal gaze. At first glance, her works appear noble and delicate, as if documenting a soft, intimate moment. Yet behind them lies a tangible bodily memory - her experience of giving birth to her firstborn son, a moment marked by sharp pain, muscular tension, and immense physical effort. These reliefs carry within them the complexity of beauty born from pain, offering a quiet testimony to the powerful act of creating life.
