About the work
Arava Assaf has developed a series of charcoal drawings on wax. A technique she made her own - drawing on silk and sealing the image beneath layers of wax. This series is based on video stills by a female naturalist and wildlife photographer. The moving image, once recorded in soft wax, solidifies and holds the trace of motion within its surface.
The scene shows birds in the sky, somewhere between battle and dance. A natural gesture of marking boundaries without malice, carried out in the expanse of the sky.
